Taylor

Taylor Swift was a rarity in pop: she is the only celebrity to have moved from the country to mainstream, and to become a pop icon worldwide. Swift left her heritage in country music like a second-skin and showed that she had the best pop sensibility of her generation. Swift was the only singer/songwriter who knew how to follow the zeitgeist of popular music out on the road. The skills she displayed were apparent on her early hits including the neo-tribute Tim McGraw but her second album, 2008's Fearless showed a writer discovering who she was and in the process, finding the mass market. Fearless wound up having considerable appeal not just on the U.S. where it racked the record with six platinum singles, on the strength of the Top Ten hits Love Story and Belong with Me Belong with Me but throughout the globe, performing especially well with Canada, the U.K. Canada and Australia. Speak Now delivered almost two years later consolidated that popularity and pushed Swift to the heights of fame. The singer's popularity increased throughout the three albums that followed - Red (2012), 1989 (2014) and Reputation (2017). Swift was now firmly established within a genre where she belonged. Although she slowed down the production of her folklore album, and Evermore released in 2020, she was still leading the way in pop music.
