Lee Roy Selmon's tale combines the football scholarship of his family and service in the local community. First family, he's the youngest of the nine children of Lucious Selmon and Jessie. They grew up on a family farm near Eufala, Oklahoma. He played second in football and was the third brother who were players for Oklahoma. All three were All-Americans. Lucious Jr. Dewey was an All-Star for the whole 1973 season. Lee Roy was named the best offensive lineman in the nation by the Outland and Lombardi Awards. In his three years as a starter Oklahoma finished 32-1-1 and also won two championships at the national level. Selmon was a National Football Foundation Scholarship-Athlete, Selmon was awarded a scholarship for the third season in the year 1975. Selmon received his bachelor's degree in education. Lee Roy's fourth service included ten hours per week as a volunteer in college. Following graduation Lee Roy moved to Tampa where he spent nine years playing for the Buccaneers. Three times, he was named an All-Pro. Then he began his business career. In 1988, he was an Account Relations officer for Tampa's First Florida Bank. He was also a part of the following groups: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. He was no surprise that In 1982, The Junior Chamber of Commerce named Lee Roy one of 10 young stars across the country. Lee Roy, a 6-2-inch taller and weighing more than 256 pounds when he played in the college level as a player, captained his team during the season of 1975. He joined University of South Florida in 1993, as assistant director of sports. In 1988, Selmon was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. In addition, he was inducted into the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall of Fame. His parents, Lucious and Mary Selmon Sr. were awarded the Distinguished American Award in 1989 from the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation. Henry Bellmon was the Oklahoma Governor, who awarded this award.
